Basics
The Schnellbahn (or S-Bahn) is a metropolitan railway system which connects the city of Vienna with the surrounding countryside of Lower Austria and Burgenland. The network's main route, called "Stammstrecke" combines 5 routes, other routes are served separately. Unlike other underground or metropolitan rail networks, the Schnellbahn is operated on the same tracks as other train services of ÖBB.

On one weekday, 960 trains are serving Vienna , 730 of them go to the countryside. All trains cover a distance of around 30.300km and carry 280.000 passengers.

Bike Transportation
Bikes can be carried in every train. Every other entrance is marked with a biking pictogram, where it's possible to park and lock a bike around the entrance area. The new Talent trains have multipurpose compartments near the toilet where also bikes can be parked. An extra ticket for each bike which costs 2.90€ is needed and can be bought at every ticket machine. There are also tickets for a week or a month available.
